To Accutane or not to Accutane
So I went to the Dermatology office to get my monthly wonderful cortizone shots to the dome and discuss my crazy acne issues.
Head Shots
The Doc says it’s slowing working so Imma keep on keeping on getting those shots. I’ve actually be getting accustomed to getting 14-20 shots to the dome every month. My plan is to keep going monthly for the next 4-5 months and see where we’re at. I don’t want to end up like my hygentist and go every two weeks for the next 6 years. That’s fc’king crazy.
Accutane
So Dr. G came to me with what he believes is the solution to my face issues. My buddies and my family have heard me talk about this program before but yesterday was the first time the Dermie suggested it. Accutane has had some controversy over the past few years in regards to being linked to rather dangerous side effects. Here’s a few that made me shiver:
- Suicidal thoughts or tendencies
- Speaking to oneself
- Birth Defects (This is confirmed in women that are able to become pregnant)
- Irritability
- Sleeping too much or too little
- Psychosis
- Acting on dangerous impulses
Um…..f’ that. Granted these side effects happen in rare cases but who wants to deal with the remote chances of being a rare case. Initially I went ahead with their pitch in that it’s the best solution for my problem and started up with the prep work prior to starting the program but after more thought and reading the pamplet they gave me I don’t think I want to go this route just yet. It just sounds like we’re using a grenade launcher to kill a mouse. The acne isn’t that bad and I believe it’s due to my diet and lack of exercise.
So today I’m going to call up the Dr.’s office and let them know I’ll be staying on the original meds they gave me for another couple months.
Update: Whew…so after talking with the Nurse over at the Dermie’s office they’re cool with me staying on what I’m on right now. Felt bad for them going through all the paperwork and bloodwork only to find that I changed my mind, but I’d rather have a slightly crowded face than to find myself arguing with a tree 3 months from now.
