I stayed up all night to revamp my blog and this picture is the result. I can successfully post from my phone and the dns entries for the blog are slowly making their way are the world. A few things that still need to be done are stats, uploading old content, and setting up an embedded Gallery2 into the blog.
Geek: Ooooo Shiny Servers
So it’s been a while since I’ve posted so I’ll drop the updates down..
New Home: Wanting to keep this blog’s maintenance down to a minimum - I bit on a hosting plan so I can sunset my old linux box hosting my blog. After doing some research I ended up going with Hostmonster.com mainly for the cost and the offerings they had. My main requirements was that it supported Wordpress and Gallery which they do. They have unlimited bandwidth and other good stuffs. My domain is still being transfered over from the old registrar so there may be a few blips here and there. Hopefully I’ll get the kinks out soon cuz I bragged to a homey about live blogging his wedding.
Bro in town: My brother and his girl came up from Cali over Labor Day weekend and it was pretty chill. After talking about doing stuff to our house - my brother volunteered to help with a few fixes that desperately needed to be done. We changed out the faucet, installed a towel ring, painted the office along with the ceiling, gutted out Rhonda’s old bathroom toilet and set it up with new innards, finally removed Rhonda’s old door and replaced it with a door from downstairs, plastered the chipping paint in the master bathroom, hung the plasma tv (with our Dad’s help), and steam cleaned the floor in the office and upstairs. Haha next time he comes back we may think about replacing some floors with hardwood
Promotion: Got a promo at work, short and sweet
More updates to come soon as right now it’s 4:55am…sleeepy
Geek: Server Back Online
My aging box that’s currently hosting this website along with http://gallery.ondabside.com is back online. (Thanks to my #1 fan in San Ho - for notifying me). I’m going to look over a few hosting options in the next couple weeks because I’m sure I’m paying hella in electricity bills by having this one box up and running all the time.
PS: Test recently updated.
Geek: Can it happen?
Myra and I were bored and decided to watch “UNTRACEABLE“. I’ll admit the movie was suspensful - I wasn’t really interested in knowing how/why the killer was the way he was but more into if the whole concept of not being able to block a URL would be possible. Technically the whole premise of this movie was the more hits a site got, the faster the victim was tortured. The whole movie was about how Feds were trying to find this killer, which I would agree with, but if you take away the site’s whole premise - theoretically no one dies. So my first thought would be to kill access to the site.
First thing I thought was “DNS Poisoning“, which is simply when a hacker injects an exploit on a vulnerable DNS server but in this case it would be intentional. All ISP’s would basically take the record of the domain, www.killwithme.com, and point it to a non-routable ip address - which would result in a blank page. Me being the geek I am, the first thing I did after the movie was grab my laptop and do some searching on whether or not this would be possible. And lo and behold, the first article I see agreed with my solution about poisioning.
That’s pretty much it, no one would be able to access the site, and the death counter would be stuck at 0, the killer would get bored waiting and let the victim go haha.
I’d give the movie a 3 for suspense, and maybe a 7 for authenticity.
Watch it if you and your lady-friend are bored….
Neato: Make video flipbooks with AfterEffects
I remember making these types of books with notebook paper in my high school class. Kind of a cool idea for maybe a baby shower, wedding give-aways, or vasectomies.

Things that make you go Hmmmm: How to think faster, better on your feet
Those guys over at CNN Living have a pretty good article on how to think faster on your feet. I’ve always admired those peeps doing MC battles (think Eminem from 8 mile) - knocking down your opponent gets the crowd going. Now this article doesn’t exactly tell you how to battle, but technically it’s the same thing. They list a method called the “Yes….and” method where someone should answer a question with “Yes….and” to keep the conversation moving forward.

Neato: Krusty Fotos
So some dood in Japan - made a website that converts any picture to look like it’s over 100 years old. I tried out a few photos and surprisingly enough the photos looked decent.
So I know all you Photoshop whores our there are saying…”I can do that ish, with a few levels and bevels, and other bs.” But you can’t beat a one-click website to make your pix old.
Try it out…
Impossible: No Spend Month
So since I’m still in recovery mode from yesterday’s Office party, I’m holed up at home and browsing the interweb for new ish.
I found this site that talks about a No Spend Month which sounds pretty interesting. After reading more into it, it’s about a family of three that dedicated themselves to only spend $250 dollars for the whole month of July. They had a set of expenses that would be taken out of the $250 bucket (i.e. food, eating out, coffee, etc.) and others that would not be counted (i.e. gifts, rent, bills, work)
So I’m thinking about doing it for the month of September. It may be hard to determine which expenses will be put in what bucket because we’re going to be traveling to San Jo to attend a wedding but it’d be a challenge I’m willing to accept.
I’ll put up more updates when September gets closer….
Drank: Office Summer Alki Party
We had our annual summer office party at Alkai beach yesterday and it was aight. Honestly I think we kicked the party’s ass last year, this year was pretty tame. I blame it on my hungry ass stomach and early drinking.
I hit up Alkai a little late because my ass was in lala land and took the wrong exit - which led to another wrong exit - which led to a 20 min detour. After all that ish, I got to Salty’s Alkai - hit up the food and went to town. I worked out early on Friday so my ass was ready to eat.
This is what I somewhat remember:
- Hit up a couple plates of Shrimps, Salmon, Bacon, Eggs Benedict, and Crab Cakes
- First drink - Crown + Coke
- I was tripping when I found out they had Henny, bartender didn’t know what I was talking about after I said Henny…wth?
- Henny + Coke #2
- Henny + Coke #3
- G-man kicked my ass with 3…yes 3 Tequila Poppers (Tequila + 7up)
- We bounce after Leandra left and hit up Duke’s (following the tradition of last year)
- G-man does the #1 thing you NEVER do at a bar and starts talking to the bartender about kicking us out because we’re too drunk
- Bartender was aight, let us eat and have a few drinks but since we had a big crowd we pretty much got schooo’ed out
- We hit up Rocksport - local spot in West Seattle to watch the game and drink more
- We drink hella and peeps started to leave, we do the bill business and we head out
Jason dropped G-man and me off at Salty’s to our cars and we head off….
Fun tams…..
Golf: Driver Driver bo Driver
So I get home and I see a long cardboard box that looks like it was bent in half. WTH? If it was something other than a golf club I wouldn’t really care but nooo so I was pretty much expecting busted ass club after opening up the box.
To my surprise, the club didn’t show any signs of damage. took a few swings, launched Rolo a few feet, then tried to put the head cover on…
If the deployment isn’t too bad tomorrow, I think I’ll try and hit a few balls at the range tomorrow.
[UPDATE 8/9]
So I finally get to use my driver this weekend. I hooked myself up with two buckets of balls, and to properly Christen my new Taylormade Burner driver. The Burner I demo’ed at Willows before was a 10.5, so I don’t expect my balls to get as much as as I did because the driver I ended up getting was a 9.5.
First few hits….crap….even worse I was at the very end of the driving range so a few balls hit the wall scared the shit out of some of the other golfers…ooops. After a while I start getting into it and getting some good hits….I change the rubber tee height to see if that made a difference and it did. I basically hit shitty for the rest of the bucket.
One dood behind me was like….”Hey….so I’m going to offer you some unsolicited advice…don’t listen to what your buddies say and take some lessons…” I don’t think I was THAT bad but oh well dood was just trying to help. He probably just heard me cussing non-stop under my breath.
So I’ll probably look into maybe taking a lesson or two…..I was hoping to avoid taking lessons at all and hoped I could just “figure it out” like I did when I started out snowboarding…
